Broadway Plan Pace of Change Defeated

Vancouver City Council Rejects Broadway Plan Pace of Change Legislation

On March 29th, the Vancouver City Council voted against the Broadway Area Plan Pace of Change Policy. The legislation would have slowed the pace of development and growth along the Broadway Corridor, a rapidly developing area in the city.

The Broadway Plan is a comprehensive land use and transportation plan that guides development in the area. The Pace of Change was a critical component of the plan that could have set limits on the amount of new development in the area.

At the City Council meeting, various stakeholders, including community members, developers, and city officials, engaged in a robust discussion about the appropriate rate of change for the Broadway Corridor. Some participants argued that a slower rate of change would help preserve the character of the neighbourhoods, while others contended that a faster rate of change was necessary to accommodate the growing population and demand for housing in the area.

After extensive deliberation, City Council voted 7-2 against the proposed rate of change for the Broadway Plan, which will allow for larger numbers of new purpose-built rental developments in the area over the coming years.

The voting down of the Broadway Plan Pace of of Change Policy is a critical step in the future of Vancouver's Broadway Corridor. It is a commendable effort by the city to ensure that development in the area is in line with the community's needs and desires.

This decision is expected to have a significant impact on the future growth and development of the Broadway Corridor and the City of Vancouver as a whole.
